SUNFLOWER WORKSHOP PLANNED FOR MISSOURI FARMERS

Missouri producers are invited to attend a half-day meeting addressing sunflower production in the state.  The workshop will focus on such issues as the production and marketing of sunflowers as well as risk management.

The workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, March 14, 2001 from 10:00am – 2:30 pm.  It will be held at the Holiday Inn Executive Center, Windsor Room I.

Producers interested in sunflower production are invited to attend the workshop.  Please confirm your attendance by calling (573) 449-8638 or by e-mail to amyers@tranquility.net

This meeting is being jointly sponsored by MU Extension and the Jefferson Institute.  The Jefferson Institute, a non-profit agricultural research and education center, helps Midwest producers discover opportunities available with crop alternatives.  Staff from the Jefferson Institute will be on hand to answer questions about sunflowers and other alternative crops.

"Sunflower production is a unique opportunity for Missouri producers," states Dr. Robert Myers, executive director of the Jefferson Institute.  "We have strong in-state markets for sunflowers, new varieties are available, and government price support exists through sunflower LDP payments.  This workshop is designed to provide production and marketing answers for interested farmers."
